MARCOTHON UPDATE

In December 25, a group of 37 brave runners took on Marcothon, a tough event that involved running for 25 minutes or 5 kilometres every day for the whole month. They faced all sorts of weather conditions, from wind and rain to hail and storms. One of the runners even did part of the challenge in Finland and ended up with frozen eyelashes! That’s dedication! There were times when they wanted to give up and stay inside in the warm, especially when some were struck down with coughs and colds. But as a team, everyone supported each other and encouraged one another to keep going and finish the challenge. What a team! They truly lived up to the motto: “Together Everyone Achieves More.”Together we clocked up a whopping:🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ 6,785.71km run🗻 63,800m elevation🕰️ 749.33 hoursThis equates to running from Jersey to Manitoba in Canada, or Johannesburg, and climbing Mount Everest over 7 times! There were also plenty PBs over the month, surprising when we were all running on pretty tired legs!Lots of new friendships were made, fun had and a few hangovers to boot. We even got to do some wicked Strava art in the shape of a reindeer in town (we got a lot of funny looks, all dressed in our Christmas fancy dress!). We might have started a new challenge - next stop Easter! We are already looking forward to taking part in this challenge again in December and hope to have lots more brave souls join us!

Thursday Intervals

2026-01-29

18:00 - 19:00

Welcome to RNRR Thursday Intervals! LOCATION: THE FREEDOM TREE, ST HELIER, 6PM (*FEEL FREE TO WAIT INSIDE THE HOTEL TO KEEP WARM UNTIL THE SESSION STARTS - NB: the exit of hotel nearest Freedom Tree is currently out of use so you'll need to go around ). This is a 60 minute coached session suitable for runners of all abilities, focused on building strength, stamina, power and speed through interval-based training. Basically, they can help you to improve your running. The session is lead by our run coaches Dan or Rik and the 60 minutes includes a thorough warm up consisting of easy running, mobilisation work, dynamic stretching, drills and strides. This warm up also focuses on improving various aspects of your run technique, biomechanics and efficiency. Not only will interval training improve your performance at all distances but it’s a really fun and social way to train. Anyone and everyone can benefit from interval-training regardless of experience level or goals and the coaches are always on hand to answer any questions. The main set is usually interval-based, meaning that there is some faster-paced running for a set time or distance, interspersed with recovery which is either easy jogging, walking or standing. The aim of each interval session is to improve a certain aspect of our physiology, such as our pace at Lactate Threshold, Vo2 Max or increase our Running Economy and Neuromuscular Efficiency. (Don't worry if you don't know what all that means as the coach will always be on hand to explain what you need to do!) Your first interval session is free and all subsequent sessions are £5, unless you are a member of the Rock n Road Runners run club. If you would like more information or are keen to join the club click here or email [email protected]. First time? No need to book. Just turn up and introduce yourself to coaches Dan or Rik (they wear "coach" pink high viz tops) THIS WEEKS SESSION: Check back here on Wednesday for full details of this weeks session.
